Colt 200 VIP Tour:
Join us on July 19th for a VIP experience in Coltsville. The morning begins at 8:00 am with a breakfast buffet, with special guest “Sam Colt,” at the Church of Good Shepherd. Following breakfast, participants will take part in exclusive tour experiences at Hartford’s foremost Colt landmarks.
Church warden Jack Hale will lead the tour of the Church of Good Shepherd and Parish House by noted architect Edward Tuckerman Potter. Elizabeth Colt commissioned the church (1867) as a memorial to her husband Sam who died in 1862. The Parish House, erected in 1895, was erected in memory of their son, Caldwell Hart Colt.
Jackie McKinney will guide the experience at Armsmear, Sam & Elizabeth Colt’s mansion on Wethersfield Avenue. Built in 1857, Armsmear was one of the grandest homes in Hartford at the time. Attributed to architect Octavius Jordan, the Italian Villa was converted to a home for Episcopalian women under the terms of Elizabeth Colt’s will.
Larry Dooley of Colt Gateway will lead participants to the balcony under the iconic East Armory Dome for an incredible view of Hartford. Two years after the death of Sam Colt, fire destroyed the original 1855 Armory. Elizabeth oversaw the construction of a new building, larger than its predecessor and designed to be fireproof, in 1865. The tour will highlight the history of the Colt Armory and the current development plans.
To participate in this VIP Tour, tickets at a cost of $80 per person/ $150 couples must be purchased in advance. There are only a limited number of tickets available.
